On Wexico, The Midwesterns offer ten enjoyable rockabilly/ alt-country tunes. Songs of love lost, hope and advice are all mixed together and sure to be sing-along anthems coming to local (and hopefully further) honky-tonks across the nation in the new year. Each song is tied together nicely with a solid rhythm section, organ or piano, reverb, giving the songs a timeless, classic feel. This oldies feel is heard strongest on “Fuel on the Fire”. Opening track “Rocked and Rolled” and “Man Ain’t A Man” brings a bit more of the, well, rock while “When I Fall In Love” and “Same Thing” are ballads. The highlight that brings everything together and shows true potential is “Life That You Lead”. Let’s hope there is more to come from this Cincinnati band.
