Tim Buckley - Live at the Folklore Center, NYC, March 6, 1967 (Tompkins Square)

2 December 2009

Yeah, yeah, another previously unreleased concert by a ’60s legend. Plenty of those, right? Heck, there are at least six other live Buckley albums. However, this is several notches above the usual attic tapes. Mono sound, true, but recorded on pro equipment. SIX previously unheard Buckley songs. The earliest recorded Buckley concert and the only solo one (as far as I know on both counts), so the excellence of his guitar playing is unobscured. It’s a spectacularly intense yet intimate performance by a still-hungry young artist on the rise, well before fame, proving his worthiness to a well-informed and discriminating audience. This is true musical treasure.
