An idea that started a few years ago has led to a 7” on Matador. This is mostly Philadelphia-based veteran punk rockers (Andy Nelson of Paint It Black and Ceremony along with Adam Goren of Fracture and Atom and His Package, Brian Sokel (also of Fracture) and Chris Wilson, the drummer for Ted Leo and the Pharmacists) with Leo on vocals doing all Misfits songs with all the proceeds going to charity, just like their sporadic shows around the area (and recently at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, too).
Overall, while nothing matches the 6 Misfits originals that are tackled here, these covers aren’t bad at all (and are really fun live). Furthermore, this release is musically notable mostly to hear Leo straining to match his naturally much more nasal voice to Glenn Danzig‘s Elvis (Presley) from Hell baritone roar. If anything, it’s fun and supports some good causes and it’s hard not to like that.
