It’s that time of year again. Here is my top ten records of 2013. There’s always room for honorable mentions! Favorite punk 7” of the year: Negative Degree – Get Fucked EP (Deranged). Favorite HC demo tape: Civilized – Negative Reflection (Youth Attack). Favorite live record: Beak> – Live at the BBC (Invada Records). Favorite metal record: Carcass – Surgical Steel (Nuclear Blast). Favorite leftfield / noise LP: Tim Hecker – Virgins (Kranky), along with Field Rotation – Fatalist: The Repetition Of History (Denovali Records) and Pan American – Cloud Room, Glass Room (Kranky). Favorite garage rock record: Thee Oh Sees – Floating Coffin (Castle Face). Favorite reissues of the year: Get High – Demos LP (Painkiller Records) and The Three O’ Clock – The Hidden World Revealed (Omnivore Recordings). Favorite comeback lp: The Stooges – Ready To Die (Fat Possum Records).

Just a reminder – I accept any & all submissions and solicitations. If you play in a band and want to send me your record or demo tape or a sound file, I would be more than happy to give it a whirl and/or review it. I try to be fair to everyone (especially towards DIY artists and smaller bands) but the only thing I can really promise is a fair shake. If I like it, I will review it. Let’s leave it at that.
