Top 10 Favorite Albums of 2010
This was my favorite year of music in recent memory. I really liked quite a few albums this year and the ones that I loved, those that are listed below, are albums I anticipate will remain in my regular listening rotation for some time to come.
The most interesting observation that I take away from making this list is that with the exception of Love Is All, who are on their third or fourth full-length, all of the bands I chose were either long running, dependable acts (like Leatherface, Teenage Fanclub, and Superchunk) or brand new ones (like The Joy Formidable, Weekend, Best Coast, Wild Nothing, The Soft Moon, and Allo, Darlin’). So much to be excited about on both ends of the spectrum!
I’ve already written about nearly all, if not all, of these bands on this page during the year, so I’ve just attached a video for my favorite track from each album. As far as the order of the list, it is pretty arbitrary except for the number one spot. The Stormy Petrel was without a doubt the album that I listened to more than any other.
Leatherface – The Stormy Petrel (No Idea)
The Joy Formidable – A Balloon Called Moaning (Black Bell Records)
Teenage Fanclub – Shadows (Merge)
Weekend – Sports (Slumberland)
Superchunk – Majesty Shredding (Merge)
Best Coast – Crazy For You (Mexican Summer)
Wild Nothing – Gemini (Captured Tracks)
The Soft Moon – The Soft Moon (Captured Tracks)
Love Is All – Two Thousand and Ten Injuries (Polyvinyl)
Allo, Darlin’ – Allo, Darlin’ (Fortuna Pop)
