Top 10 Side 1/Track 1’s 1978

This is a list of my favorite Side 1/Track 1’s from 1978 (expect similar lists for later years in coming weeks).

On the last few Top 10s, I’ve listed all songs that were in consideration. From now on, I’m just going to list the few that were the hardest to leave off of the list. I’d invite you to chime in with the ones that you’d have like to have seen make it. Here are the ones that, on a given day, might have edged one of the last few tracks out; The Boys – “Brickfield Nights” from Alternative Chartbusters, Penetration – “Future Daze” from Moving Targets, Pere Ubu – “Navvy” from Dub Housing, Public Image Ltd. – “Theme” from First Issue, The Rezillos – “Flying Saucer Attack” from Can’t Stand The Rezillos, and The Saints – “Swing For The Crime” from Prehistoric Sounds.

What did I get wrong? What did I get right? As always, your feedback is both welcomed and encouraged.

  1. X-Ray Spex – “The Day The World Turned Day-Glo”

    from Germ Free Adolescents.

  6. Devo – “Uncontrollable Urge”

from Q: Are We Not Devo? A: We Are Devo.

    from Static Age.

  8. Elvis Costello – “No Action”

    from This Year’s Model.

  9. The Dils – “Blow Up”
