10 “Kill” Songs

Recently, I got bored with the playlists that I was putting together. Not that I didn’t like the songs. It just seemed like if I started with shoegaze, then the whole list would be shoegaze. If I started with C86, the the whole list would be C86. And so on. In trying to break away from the formula, I decided to start making playlists that were less concerned with being stylistically cohesive and had some different sort of theme. My solution was to start building them around a common word, or root word, in the song titles. The result has been much more varied lists that allow me to be surprised and at hearing songs outside of the context I might be used to. This week’s list is compiled of 10 of my favorite songs from my playlist of over 50 songs that is built around the word “kill”. Are there “kill” songs that would be on your list that you don’t see here? Let me know.

  1. Echo & The Bunnymen – “The Killing Moon”

  2. Phil Ochs – “I Kill, Therefore I Am”

  3. James Chance & The Contortions – “Design To Kill”

  4. Lush – “Ladykillers”

  5. Nada Surf – “Killian’s Red”

  6. The Cure – “Killing An Arab”

  7. Dead Kennedys – “Kill The Poor”

  8. Drive Like Jehu – “If It Kills You”

  9. Neil Young & Crazy Horse – “Cortez The Killer”

  10. Catherine Wheel – “Kill Rhythm”
