Chuck Foster: September 14, 2008

Recommended albums available from Metalhit.com

  1. Storming DarknessSin-thesis (Knightmare)

Intense Russian black metal in the vein of Merrimack, Behexen and even some early Immortal. Memorable riffs at blazing speed.

  2. EliteWe Own the Mountains (Folter)

Excellent Norwegian black metal that combines Burzum’s melodic drones with Gorgoroth’s intense brutality.

  3. XasthurNocturnal Poisoning (Blood Fire Death)

Malefic’s first album. While not as powerful as his later albums, it’s still an excruciatingly miserable feel-bad time for all. Bares the strongest resemblance to the French band, Mütiilation, who obviously influenced Malefic a great deal.

  4. Black AltarDeath Fanaticism (Black Plague)

Brutal, punishing Polish black metal in the Gorgoroth/Nargaroth camp. Some keyboards, but not enough to label it “symphonic.”
  5. Fetid Zombie – “Abort the Messiah” EP (Metalhit)

Four-song EP of Greg Ginn-ified death metal insanity by gore-artist Mark Riddick. Lots of fun with songs like “Ride the Goat to Jerusalem” and “Entrails of the Divine.” Definitely a noticeable progression from his debut album, Pleasures of the Scalpel.

  6. BanishmentCleansing the Infirm (Lacerated Enemy)

Thick, chunky, guttural, yet extremely catchy SoCal death metal.

  7. DemonizerTriumphator (Folter)

Belgian black metal band that takes as much from Slayer as they do from Mayhem. It’s truly the best of both worlds.

  8. EthernalGrim Ethernity (Unholy Design)

Odd UK black metal that combines the virtuosity of King Crimson, the heaviness of Black Sabbath and the bombast of Sweden’s Craft.

  9. SpeirlingThe Piper (Unholy Design)

Odd concept album about the mythic Pied Piper of Hamlin that owes a lot to Bathory circa Blood Fire Death.

  10. Od’sahePhilosophy of Self-Destruction (Black Plague)

One-man Russian black metal band who uses death metal technique and song structure to get the point across.
