Recent Review Favorites
Here are my favorite tracks from the albums I’ve reviewed over the past week on this website. The artists are in the order I reviewed them, with the songs in my order of preference.
Middle Class Trash – “BFE”
It’s kind of an answer to Fear‘s “I Love Livin’ in the City” that extols the virtues of living in the country and being a “hick.”
Middle Class Trash – “Opportunistic Edge”
A scathing rant against the straightedge scene.
Middle Class Trash – “Stand for Something”
“Don’t be a billboard, just stand for something!”
Middle Class Trash – “Music Industry”
An intelligent commentary on the state of the punk scene as it stands now.
Middle Class Trash – “Resist”
I like this one because it kinda sounds like an old Conflict song and it has a cool guitar part.
Master Musicians of Bukkake – “Bardo Chonyid/Master of All Visible Shapes”
This haunting opening track perfectly sets the stage for the unnerving synthesis of Master Musicians of Jajouka-style hypnosis and droning Throbbing Gristle waves.
Master Musicians of Bukkake – “The Crystal Reformation”
It’s just under two minutes of squall and drone, but it’s very effective.
Master Musicians of Bukkake – “The Heresy of Origen”
This track, centered around a dark organ riff, could have been something on an early Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze album.
DDDD – “Frustration Music”
From the haunting sad female voice on the answering machine that opens the track to the lo-fi, low-end feedback and squelch that follows, it’s a trek through the bleakest regions of the psyche.
DDDD – “Loss Aversion”
A keyboard-like sound joins the wall of noise and together they build to violence.
