Recent Review Favorites

Here are my favorite tracks from the albums I’ve reviewed over the past week on this website. The artists are in the order I reviewed them, with the songs in my order of preference.

  1. Kid606 – “Deep Lid Morgue”

    A dark harsh noise piece.

  2. Kid606 – “Lou Reed Gimped”

Creepy track that sounds like Lou Reed‘s Berlin being recalled in a nightmare.

  3. Kid606 – “Die Rumpled Ego”

Probably the closest thing to Kid606’s hardcore electronic sound on the entire album, though the beat tempo seems to be turned up so fast that it becomes a very soothing monotone.

  4. Kid606 – “Periled Emu God”

The dreamy, psychedelic centerpiece to the album.

  5. Kid606 – “Dim Ego Prelude”

The opening track of Songs About Fucking Steve Albini could be a lost track from Kraftwerk‘s Autobahn.

  6. The Chemical Distance – “No ‘Real’ Friend”

A Ministry-style rocker and the only song on The Pain & the Progress not ruined by vocals.

  7. The Chemical Distance – “The Protector”

Instrumental track that lurks in the shadows.

  8. The Chemical Distance – “Envy”

Frenetic instrumental track characterized by dueling guitars.

  9. The Chemical Distance – “The Progress”

40-second outro that sounds like a child’s nightmare.

  10. The Chemical Distance – “The Pain”

    The somber minute-long intro.
