Recent Review Favorites
Here are my favorite tracks from the items I’ve reviewed over the past week on this website. The artists are in the order I reviewed them, with the songs in my order of preference (except when entire albums are listed as all the tracks are deemed equal).
The Germs – “Forming” & The Dils – “I Hate the Rich”
I don’t know if it’s hometown pride or what, but to me, old LA punk is the best stuff on Earth, so all the tracks on the What Is It 10” compilation (Wondercap) are some of my favorite songs ever. They represent items 1-5 on this list.
The Eyes – “Don’t Talk to Me” & The Spastics – “I’m a Spaz/Fuck the World”
The Skulls – “On Target” & The Controllers – “Killer Queers”
The Spastics – “Baby, You String Me Up/Your Head Exploding” & The Germs – “‘Round and ‘Round”
Kaos – “Top Secret” & Agent Orange – “Out of Limits”
T.H.U.G. – “The Way It Is” & “69”
Dubious politics be damned, T.H.U.G.‘s eponymous debut LP (Rock’N‘Roll Disgrace) is rowdy rock’n‘roll infused with the down under spirit of Australia’s great hard rock bands (Rose Tattoo, AC/DC, etc.). Catchy, memorable songs grace both sides and, if you can put their questionable associations aside, it’s an album you’ll want to blast over and over.
T.H.U.G. – “Rabbit On” & “Gunnin’ 4 U”
T.H.U.G. – “Forever Forward” & “One Man’s War”
T.H.U.G. – “We Made It” & “Going Down”
T.H.U.G. – “R.I.P.,” “Fishy’s” & “We Rule OK”
