Recent Review Favorites
Here are my favorite tracks from the items I’ve reviewed over the past week on this website. The artists are in the order I reviewed them, with the songs in my order of preference (except when entire albums are listed as all the tracks are deemed equal).
World War IX – “Hate Mail From Friends”
The title track of WWIX’s new EP on Red Black and Blue Records sets the tone for this fine slab of Black Flag-ish punk rock. The whole thing is spectacular, so all the songs are listed.
World War IX – “Destination Blackout”
World War IX – “Fishing For Compliments”
World War IX – “(What’s Wrong With) Drinking All Day”
World War IX – “Slugfest on Channel 11”
Elliott Caine Sextet – “Hippy Chicks on Acid”
Along with the title track, I have to list all the songs on Caine’s album recorded live at Alvas in San Pedro, CA and released by Wondercap Records. It’s a soothing massage of hard bop to rub the stresses of everyday life away.
Elliott Caine Sextet – “Paying the Price” & “Elleina’s Dance”
Elliott Caine Sextet – “A Different Beauty” & “Defiance”
Elliott Caine Sextet – “No Way Out”
Elliott Caine Sextet – “Little Rio”
