  1. The O’Jays – “Love Train”
I went to a wedding last weekend, and am going to another one next weekend. So in that spirit here’s 10 of my favorite songs to hear at wedding receptions, starting with one of my absolute favorites. No big surprises, just good music to move the crowd.
  2. The Jackson Five – “I Want You Back”
Or “The Love You Save,” or “ABC.” Perfect music to get people moving.
  3. Stevie Wonder – “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”
Joyous in spirit, lifting up the mood…
  4. Diana Ross – “Upside Down”
A great beat, just disco enough without being ridiculous.
  5. Michael Jackson – “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough”
A similar disco-ish tone, possibly overplayed but still a classic. Several other Off the Wall/Thriller-era MJ songs work just as well.
  6. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles – “Mickey’s Monkey”
I have no idea how you do Mickey’s Monkey, but this song makes me want to try….or just to dance, really.
  7. The Coasters – “Yakety Yak”
Or similar, something goofy for the kids that’s still good (and not the Hokey Pokey).
  8. Dexy’s Midnight Runners – “Come on Eileen”
I always think I have no opinion on this band, or this song, until it comes on at a wedding and sounds so right…
  9. Weather Girls – “It’s Raining Men”
To confuse people, while keeping them dancing.
  10. The Beatles – “Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey”
Ok, I’ve never heard this at a wedding, and in real life it might clear the dance floor. But it’s always struck me as a perfect dance song in disguise, one that in my imagination would cause people to dance like they’ve never danced before.
