Vacation – Happy to get away

I’m on a vacation now, doing some travelling. And there’s so many ways I associate music with travel, whether it’s music I hear for the first time while in a new place, or music I take with me along the journey. Music also has its own ability to transport, and that’s certainly a factor. Here’s 10 albums that in my mind I associate with travel, whether from personal experience or just the mood of the music itself. Some of the connections might not be obvious to you, but travel is always a subjective experience.

  1. Ride – Carnival of Light (Reprise)
  2. Herbie Hancock – Maiden Voyage (Blue Note)
  3. Stereolab – Emperor Tomato Ketchup (Elektra)
  4. Yuichiro Fujimoto – Kinoe (Audio Dregs)
  5. World Party – Bang! (Seaview)
  6. Saint Etienne – So Tough (Warner)
  7. Silver Jews – The Natural Bridge (Drag City)
  8. People Under the Stairs – O.S.T. (Om)
  9. Tom Waits – Night on Earth Soundtrack (Island)
  10. The Guild League – Private Transport (Matinee)
