Dave Heaton: October 1, 2006

  1. John Phillips – John the Wolfking of L.A. (Varese Sarabande)

Dreamy California country-rock classic from the Mamas and the Papas member, reissued after years out of print.

  2. Mahogany – Connectivity (Darla)

    A glorious future-pop epic.

  3. Funkadelic – Cosmic Slop (Westwood)

I’ve been going through the immortal Funkadelic cataglogue lately, this week stuck on this one.

  4. Great Aunt Idea – How They Fly (Northern Electric)

Really enjoyable pop album, gentle and pretty but also multi-faceted and fascinating.

  5. Various Artists – The Kids at the Club (How Does It Feel to Be Loved?)

Excellent indie-pop compilation featuring today’s brightest new bands: Voxtrot, I’m From Barcelona, Irene, Saturday Looks Good to Me, and more.

  6. The Mountain Goats – Get Lonely (4AD)

Can’t get away from it…album of the year.

  7. The Office Season 3 (NBC, Thursdays)

Hilarious and bittersweet. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

  8. The Amazing Race Season 10 (CBS, Sundays)

The other show that I must watch every week. So far this season is tougher, and therefore more exciting, than the last handful of seasons.

  9. New England PopFest, October 6 – 8, Northampton Massachusetts

I can’t go, but I can dream about it. The line-up is fantastic: Ponies in the Surf, The Smittens, Secret Shine, Bunnygrunt, The Snow Fairies, and so many more.

  10. Gourmet magazine, October issue

The Restaurant Issue, one of my favorite magazine issues each year. I love reading about exciting-sounding restaurants that I can’t afford to go to.
