Dave Heaton: December 10, 2006

Music I’ve been enjoying lately…

  1. Tom Waits – Orphans (Anti-)

Taking leftovers and making them feel like a proper album…sort of.

  2. Sonic Youth – Destroyed Room: B-Sides and Rarities (Geffen)

Same story: leftovers turned into an album. But the end result is even better, and sometimes feels like it could be my favorite Sonic Youth album ever.

  3. Pipas – Sorry Love (Long Lost Cousin)

As stylish, breezy, and moving as ever.

  4. Math and Physics Club – Math and Physics Club (Matinee)

Pure pop, immediately an all-time favorite.

  5. George Guzman – Introducing George Guzman (Fania)

I keep getting into these Fania reissues. Excellent Latin soul/boogaloo from 1968.

  6. Portastatic – Be Still Please (Merge)

Keeps growing on me; Portastatic’s finally making albums as lasting as Superchunk’s.

  7. Sloan – Never Hear the End of It (Yep Roc)

Just getting into this, but it’s an interesting one. 30 songs on a single disc…

  8. The Blow – Paper Television (K)

In particular “Parantheses” is blowing me away.

  9. The Snow Fairies – Voila!

    A lovely final statement.

  10. Voxtrot – “Your Biggest Fan” EP (Play Louder)

    Instant classic.
