Randomness

ipod on shuffle – whatever comes up

  1. Ghostface Killah – “Whip Me With a Strap”

One of his “reminicse” raps, with a J Dilla production that’s also part of the immortal Donuts.

  2. De La Soul – “Plug Tunin’ (Last Chance to Comprehend”

“And now for my next number / I’d like to return to the classics / perhaps the most famous classic / in all the world of music.”

  3. My Teenage Stride – “Chock’s Rally”

Indie-pop album of the year? Maybe; it’s vying with Lucky Soul for that title, in my mind.

  4. My Morning Jacket – “Lay Low”

    Great track from Z.

  5. Belle and Sebastian – “Desparation Made a Fool of Me”

    Nice lazy-day B-side.

  6. Mahogany – “Neo-Plastic Boogie-Woogie”

    Onwards and upwards!

  7. Tobin Sprout – “Catch the Sun”

Oddball art-pop track, with a great melancholy melody at the chorus, just what you’d expect from one of the great underrated pop/rock songwriters.

  8. The Eames Era – “Both Hands Full”

Oh wait! Maybe this is the indie-pop album of the year.

  9. Nick Cave – “There She Goes, My Beautiful World”

I’ve been thinking about Nick Cave a lot lately – maybe ‘cause of the upcoming Grinderman album, or the recent great live CD/DVD. This is one of the best tracks off his epic Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus – inspiring and uplifting while cynical to the core.

  10. The Magnetic Fields – “The Sun Goes Down and the World Goes Dancing”

Great way to end, I think.
