Ethan Jacobs: July 20, 2014

Music was good to me this week.

  1. Woman’s Hour- Conversations LP

The London-based four piece released their swoon-pop debut this week, and it’s everything we could have hoped for—emotionally poignant lyricism paired with serene pop soundscapes.

  2. LSDXOXO mixtape

Featuring BbyMutha, Cakes da Killa, and Rahel among others, this sinister dance mix straight out of Brooklyn will have you groovin’ something nasty.

  3. My Brightest Diamond- “Pressure”

My Brightest Diamond’s Shara Worden returns with a sensationally chaotic and quirky single full of drum rolls, strange woodwind instruments, and astonishingly powerful vocals.

  4. Cassie Ramone- “Hangin’ On”

Ex Vivian Girl Cassie Ramone has released the first single from her upcoming album The Time Has Come and it’s breezy and beautiful.

  5. Beverly- Careers LP

Drew Citron and Frankie Rose released their debut LP a few weeks ago under the moniker Beverly. Chilling vocals paired with tight song-writing and a lo-fi, shoegazey sound make this record worth your time.

  6. Happyness- “It’s on You”

One of the tracks off the recently released Weird Little Birthday LP, “It’s on You” is my breezy, nostalgic summer jam of the week.

  7. Taylor McFerrin- Early Riser LP

This album, from start to finish, is perfect. Mixing tinges of ambient and minimalistic electronic music with soulful vocals from various artists, Early Riser is a cathartic pop masterpiece.

  8. Haim-My Song 5 (A$AP Ferg remix)

I knew someone was going to make a rap remix to this song, and I’m glad A$AP Ferg did it justice. Definitely worth a listen or ten.

  9. Slow Magic- “Girls”

The new single from Slow Magic’s upcoming LP via Downtown Records is really fun to dance to.

  10. Allie X- “Bitch”

This new track by Allie X is abrasive and in your face, catchy and glorious.
