The Ten Best Songs of the 1990s
One should never be so absolute as I am in the above title, but to follow up Pitchfork.com’s week-long countdown of the same, here’s my attempt to define the 90s in my own image. The accompanying videos are of course not the ideal way to hear these songs, but if you turn your head away from the computer screen while you listen, I think you’ll have a good time.
Slowdive – “Alison”
Bjork – “Hyperballad”
Red House Painters – “Katy Song”
Pale Saints – “Hunted”
Pet Shop Boys – “Can You Forgive Her?”
Pulp – “Common People”
Guided By Voices – “The Queen of Cans and Jars”
Squarepusher – “Beep Street”
Sinead O’Connor – “Feel So Different”
Bad Religion – “Faith Alone”
