Idaho Three Sheets to the Wind (Caroline)
If “Louie Louie” and its immediate appeal sits on one end of the musical accessibility spectrum, Idaho’s integrity soaked tunes, with their onion-like layers of discovery and mystery, sit on the other end. Though the music isn’t comprised of a blizzard of notes and is far less complex than a sonic firestorm of an album like “Song X” by Pat Metheny and Ornette Coleman, Jeff Martin’s compositions never get old. In fact, he is the rarest of artists in that his music only seems to grow in its stature and appeal with repeated exposure. For that reason, I can understand why many may think he is overrated. But he’s not. If you are a discerning music lover who appreciates meticulously arranged songs, in which every detail seems intended and in which fragility and honesty abound, then check out Idaho. Martin, a classically trained pianist, also steadily commands a four-string guitar. Listen to “If You Dare” and the song’s disarming delicacy and raw feeling. Also check out “No One’s Watching” and its palpable pathos.
Idaho You Were a Dick (PID)
Stylistically similar to “the Forbidden EP – Alas,” “Dick,” released this year, is perfect for late night listening. The title track, “Impaler” and especially “Weigh it Down” (the part from 3:07 to the end is intoxicatingly good) are all winners.

After 35 years, the Damned still have it! The band knocked out their 1977 debut, the punk scorcher “Damned Damned Damned” and their 1980 goth/psych/punk/prog gem “The Black Album” with flair and finesse.
