My Ten Desert Island Discs
This is the list of albums I’d take with me if I were ever to be stranded on the proverbial desert island. I chose not to allow reissues, compilations, or best of collections. (Although, that would’ve made this easier).
London Calling – The Clash
What can I say? Great album, great cover (perhaps the best rock ‘n roll photo ever!) things were never the same after I heard I got my copy in 1980.
OK Computer – Radiohead
Perfect.
Radio City – Big Star
If I would’ve allowed reissues, the “Number 1 Record/Radio City” reissue.
Rubber Soul – The Beatles
This changes day by day between “Rubber Soul” and “Revolver” as best Beatles album for me.
The Bends – Radiohead
Armed Forces – Elvis Costello and the Attractions
If I’d have allowed Best of compilations it would’ve been just to ease the choice of what Costello album. The Rykodisc “Best Of” is darn near perfect.
Exile on Mainstreet – The Rolling Stones
Does anything document a particular time as well?
American Idiot – Green Day
This comes a close second for capturing a time and mood.
Let It Be – The Replacements
Although, on any give day I could say “Tim” instead. The Dylan album listed as my #10 is probably more important musically to the world, but not to me. And this is my list, right?
Bringing It All Back Home – Bob Dylan
The musical line of demarcation. Nothing was the same after it.
