Kristen Sollee: April 9, 2006

  1. Ministry – Rio Grande Blood
You know how rock writers use the adjective ‘punishing’ to describe incredibly heavy, killer metal? Well, this record truly does that description justice. Al Jourgensen has officially punished me with his newest release. It’s catchy and tight and explosively anti-Bush. Buy it on May 2nd when it comes out!
  2. Union Restaurant
Yeah, I know I posted about this Williamsburg diner’s chocolate peanut butter pie a while back, but the post opened up a whole world of enjoyment after I got the chance (thanks to Suzy) to indulge in their Derby pie this week. Each slice was so delicious I had to literally take a nap to recover. Wow.
  3. Rob Zombie – “Death Of It All”
Mournful, catchy tune off of Zombie’s new album, Educated Horses, on which he’s eschewed the heavy electronics of the past for a straight up drums/bass/guitar combo.
  4. Buckcherry – Fifteen
Sure I’ve changed since Buckcherry signed my chest outside their tour bus in high school, but judging from their newest release filled with more swampy blues rock, they haven’t one bit.
  5. Custom Knives by Jeff Harkins
This guy makes amazing custom knives. My roomie got one and the body looks like a gleaming silver coffin. Check out his stuff here.
  6. The Living End – “Prisoner of Society”
Thanks to BT Bloggers Matt and Rachel for reminding me of these guys!
  7. Marvelous 3 – “I Could Change”
I really dislike pop punk, but something about Butch Walker always appealed to me.
  8. Risen #2, March 2006
From the cover, it looked like a cool new mag that included interviews with Pauley Perrette and Anne Rice. Upon closer examination of the interviews and the quote under the title that says “it’s not what you think,” I came to realize it was a Christian magazine. Pretty sneaky guys. What a way to get converts.
  9. Avenged Sevenfold – “The Beast and the Harlot”
Whatever you think about the band, M. Shadows has some sexy diamond-encrusted fangs in this video.
  10. L7 – “Mr. Integrity”
God Donita Sparks is such a badass.
