...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Festival Thyme
With Festival Thyme, Austin’s …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have offered us a short and sweet four song EP that travels the twisted trails of prog rock, emo, classic rock and shoegaze. “Bells of Creation” opens the album in epic style, rivaling The Who and Led Zeppelin with grandiose guitar chords that reign over a simple piano line in this uplifting track. Singer Conrad Keely announces, “And I felt like Satan,” stoking the fires that flicker beneath the surface at each powerful crescendo.
Then, true to form, Trail of Dead go on to something completely different. The title track combines bright indie pop with a rollicking folk foundation, while “Inland Sea” is romantic and atmospheric, and “The Betrayal of Roger Casement and the Irish Brigade” is dissonant and dramatic.
If this release is any indication of what’s to come, we are in for some surprises.
