Top ten bands I would like to see get back together

There are so many reunions of classic bands these days. Some of them succeed in igniting that original spark that made them great in the first place (Dinosaur Jr.), while others are just blatantly trying to cash in on the nostalgia factor (The Police). Here are ten bands that I think should give it another go.

  1. The Kinks

Even though original bass player Pete Quaife recently passed away, they could still mount a legitimate and successful comeback if brothers Ray and Dave could just agree to disagree.

  2. Rockpile

I would love to see these guys get back together, the ultimate pub rock band and the only white boys who could out-boogie AC/DC.

  3. Scruffy The Cat

This Boston-based band was playing high-octane roots rock way back in the 80s, before it was cool. I was lucky enough to see them twice back then, but I’d love to see them again. And again, and again…

  4. Husker Du

This band shows up on a lot of lists, and with good reason. I had a ticket to see them in 1987 on the Warehouse tour but the day before the show it got cancelled, and they broke up shortly thereafter. I’ve been hoping they would get back together ever since, but my Magic Eight Ball says “all signs point to NO.”

  5. Black Flag

Greg Ginn is at the top of another list of mine- guitarists I have to see play live before I die. He still tours with various solo projects, but like a lot of west coast indie artists he doesn’t often make it all the way to the east coast. My dream gig would be to see him play with Chuck Dukowski on bass, Keith Morris on vocals and Robo on drums, but I would be perfectly happy to see any incarnation of this band.

  6. The Misfits

Yeah, The Misfits still tour but not with their founder, principal songwriter and the man with the golden pipes, Glen Danzig.

  7. Fugazi

These guys were a powerful live band. I’d love to hear them play again, except this time without the feeling: it seems like every time I saw them they would stop the show, turn up the house lights and start complaining about something. Despite the whining I would go see them again in a heartbeat, they were that good.

  8. L7

I wish this band were known for more than just “Pretend We’re Dead” and throwing tampons, because they put out a lot of great records and totally rocked live.

  9. Screaming Trees

By the time I got into this band they were already gone, so I selfishly propose that they get back together so I can see them play live.

  10. The White Stripes

Officially, they haven’t broken up. But if you read between the lines it doesn’t look good. It seems like Meg White has lost her shit and quit the business. Jack White needs to get out from behind the drum kit, strap on that cheap-ass guitar and get back to writing more rip-snorting blues riffs with the rocket-powered melodies. If not The White Stripes, then he should at least make another Raconteurs record.
