Top 10 July 24 2011
This weekend is the Heavy MTL festival, a two day thrash bash off the island that features many of my childhood metal idols. My wife got herself a free pass while I, like a schmuck, have to work. Yes, I’m mad jealous! I’ll have to vicariously live through her moshpit party with the likes of Anthrax, Diamond Head (!!!!!!), Motorhead and Morbid Angel . I’m an unrepentant lifelong metalhead, growing up poor as shit in the hills of Quebec in the 80s, I twigged more to metal than the more sub/urban oriented punk sound. The darker, harder more bloody and brutal sound of metal perfectly mirrored my life in those days. The songs I’ve chosen for my top 10 metal songs are from that era and each hold special meaning for me.. some, I would even venture, have saved my life. So horns up and twist the volume to 11, here’s to the Metal years!
Megadeth – In My Darkest Hour
Slayer – South Of Heaven
Anthrax – Indians
Suicidal Tendencies – You Can’t Bring Me Down
Motörhead – Killed By Death
S.O.D. – Milk
D.R.I. – Tear It Down
Venom – Black Metal
Metallica – Seek and Destroy
Sepultura – Territory
