Rockin’ for Barack
With the Pennsylvania primary coming up this Tuesday April 22nd (remember to go vote that day if you live in PA) and with BARACK OBAMA speaking here in Philadelphia at a massive rally at Independence Mall last night, I figured that I would offer a list of 10 musicians who have endorsed his candidacy.
Michael Stipe
In this interview, Stipe echoes some of the reasons why I also support Obama.
The Fiery Furnaces
To show their support, they even staged a “caucus” on a recent tour where they asked fans to vote online for their favorite songs, which they would later perform on the tour. You can read more about it here.
Joanna Newsom
Joanna is such an ardent supporter that she even stumped passionately at her recent show at BAM. Now I don’t necessarily agree that Obama is more liberal than DENNIS KUCINICH, but no matter.
Craig Wedren
The former SHUDDER TO THINK frontman participated in a concert titlted “Barack Rock” back in February right before Super Tuesday along with OK GO, members of the Stella comedy troupe and others. In this interview with Gothamist, Wedren eloquently lists the reasons the reasons why he supports Obama, along with talking about his personal life, the Shudder to Think reunion that happened the night of the concert and other things as well.
Colin Meloy
To be honest, I didn’t even realize that Colin had written this humorous little song about Obama until I did a search just now.
The Arcade Fire
They memorably played several free concerts in Nelsonville, OH and then the next night in Cleveland right before the Ohio primary last month. You can read more about it here.
Wilco
JEFF TWEEDY and company were early supporters, playing a benefit back in December.
Bruce Springsteen
Obama got a boost the other day by way of an official endorsement from Bruce Springsteen. You can read more about it here.
Dave Matthews
Yeah I know. Reading this interview from Rolling Stone probably won’t inspire me to put any of his records on anytime soon, but I did enjoy reading it nonetheless since I agree with his points here.
Conor Oberst
Conor stumped for Obama in Iowa and in his hometown of Omaha back in January. You can read more about it here.
