Top Ten Punk Artists from Minnesota

My buddy just moved in with a gal from the Twin Cities. What better reason to put together a Top Ten List!

  1. Bob Dylan

If you don’t think that Zimmy is the ultimate Punk Rocker, you haven’t been paying attention!

  2. Husker Du

    Bob Mould- Flying V
    Grant Hart – Drums
Greg Norton – Bass and awesome mustache

    nuff said

  3. The Replacements

From 1981 until 1985, they might have been the greatest band of all time.
Would have taken number 2 on the chart if Bob Stinson hadn’t died; which turned the ‘Mats into a Westerberg solo act.

  4. Soul Asylum

Before they turned into Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers redux, Soul Asylum released four classic albums. Extra points for originally having their band named Loud Fast Rules.

  5. Dillinger Four

Along with NOFX and Rancid, the best punk band of the last 20 years.

  6. Prince

A diminutive black dude parading around in his underwear. He takes the music industry by the throat, stars in a hit movie and proceeds to do whatever the hell he wants for the past 25 years. Now, THAT is punk as fuck!
  7. The Trashmen

    Surfin’ Bird. Dayanu.

  8. Babes In Toyland

    Riot Grrls.

  9. The Suburbs

Early MN punk/new wave. Music For Boys is the one to check out.

  10. Suicide Commandos

Arguably the first “Punk” Minnesota Band.
