Steve Holtje: June 21, 2009

Shuffle

  1. Chris McGregor’s Brotherhood of Breath – “MRA

South African jazz at its finest.

  2. Cledus T. Judd – “Man of Constant Borrow”

He makes me laugh, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

  3. Wee – “Alone (Reprise)”

Obscure ’70s soul, ultra-slick, reissued on Asterisk.

  4. Grateful Dead – “Good Lovin’”

To the extent that I like the Dead – I’m far from fanatical – it’s for either their country stuff or their freer and more psychedelic material. It sure ain’t for their mediocre covers such as this one from Dick’s Picks, Vol. 10.

  5. Icicle Works – “Love Is a Wonderful Colour” (12”)

    Ah, the ’80s.

  6. Richard Lloyd – “Only Friend”

The album this is from, Radiant Monkey, is on my iTunes because I didn’t like it enough to buy it.

  7. Talk Talk – “Life’s What You Make It” (Live)

Another lesser track. I like their later albums much better than stuff like this.

  8. Neil Young – “Powderfinger”

An acoustic version from a concert bootleg titled Restless.

  9. Death Cab for Cutie – “Bend to Squares”

I love every song on Something About Airplanes.

  10. The Darkness – “Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time”

The best song on their second album.
