New York rock n’ rollers, Jeremy & the Harlequins are premiering their new single, “Afterlife” exclusively on the Big Takeover. The single will be available to the public to buy/stream Friday. “Afterlife” is featured on the band’s upcoming album, ABRA CaDaBRA, out May 20 on Pasadena Records.

Infused with classic sounds of the ’50s and ’60s, the hook in the chorus of “Afterlife” isn’t a typical vocal line or guitar riff, but lead vocalist Jeremy Fury playing the theremin. The track also features Nathan Cogan Post on Mellotron, and strings by Jonny Dinklage, lead violinist for Hamilton on Broadway. The vintage instruments give way to the eternal, haunting themes of the song.

“Reincarnation. Soulmates. Fate. ‘Afterlife’ is not only a song, but a story about two lovers,” Fury exclusively told the Big Takeover. “It’s about two very old souls who can’t help but be together, and they keep finding each other in different cities and eras. I believe that even though the body might turn to ash or dust, the soul is eternal, and certain souls are destined to be together over and over.”

Jeremy & the Harlequins meet at the crossroads of sun-soaked sixties California harmonies and New York garage-rock gutter fuzz. Following their debut album, American Dreamer, in 2013, they quietly emerged as a critic and fan favorite with Into the Night (2016) and Remember This (2018). With syncs throughout pop culture, and a lot of love from Little Steven’s Underground Garage, the stage is set for their fourth full-length album and Pasadena Records debut, ABRA CaDaBRA.
