A quick glimpse into the world of Demi Ramos

18 February 2023

Let’s start with a bit of background. What made you want to be a musician, and what did the journey get you to where you are today?

Demi Ramos: I started studying classical guitar and then Opera until I discovered a distortion pedal. Then it was rock from then on :)

Are there any particular artists whose music has inspired and influenced your creative process? And non-musical people who have affected you too.

DR: Oprah Winfrey has always inspired me. She embodies both femininity and power.

“Just a Phase” wonderfully straddles pop, rock, and indie music realms. Is this a conscious decision, or how the music comes out?

DR:I love guitar-based music in general, but we made the song in California, so maybe that’s why the tones are more dreamy.

Can you tell me how you hooked up with Garzi and what musical or otherwise qualities he brought to the process?

DR: Garzi and I met in New York when we played a show at Berlin. He’s the homie and also someone I really admire as an artist. He surprised me when he got on the mic. He was super quick, and his style was infectious.

Can you also tell me how you connected with Victoria Konefal and the experience of making the video with her?

DR: VK! She’s my best friend; we met in high school. The video was shot on this Kodak point-and-shoot camera I bought just for fun. She’s super sharp and knows a good time, and the video reflects that. Young legend.

And you are involved in the world of podcasting; how did you become involved, and what do you love most about it?

DR: I fell in love with podcasting during the quarantine. It started out as a passion project, and now it’s one of my favorite things to do. I remember being more nervous about doing my first interview than I ever was about performing on stage. I love media so much because, with the right questions, you can really open up an artist to people in a special way.

And where next? Is there an album on the horizon? Are gigs or tours planned? Anything else you are looking forward to in 2023?

DR: So much coming; stay tuned
