The Ar-Kaics were in NYC for a doubleheader, opening for label-mates The Mystery Lights, the weekend the city declared a state of emergency over the Coronavirus outbreak. “It’s nuts looking back on it,” The Ar-Kaics’ singer and guitarist Johnny Ward recalls. “People showed up for both shows! Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but we had a ball. It was one hell of a last hurrah.”
Sidelined from recording their next LP for Wick Records, along with cancellation/postponement of summer tours in the States, Europe, and Japan, The Ar-Kaics are taking a moment for reflection on Ar-Kives: Volume 1, a new collection featuring all of their early out-of-print singles, a demo highlight, and a previously unreleased track from their self-titled recording sessions.
Today, Big Takeover is pleased to host the premiere of the track “Can’t Stand this Place,” a feeling everyone’s probably experienced – at least once already today!
“Can’t Stand this Place” is a previously unreleased studio outtake from their self-titled album sessions. The briskly driving garage rock ‘n’ roll track features prescient lyrics, including, “Gotta find some way out of this place / …I don’t want to be here / I can’t win this race.”
Limited edition vinyl copies of Ar-Kives: Vol. 1 start shipping June 12 on the band’s own label, Dig! Records. Stay home, and order in your copy of this generous helping of garage rock par excellence from The Ar-Kaics at Dig! Records Bandcamp
