Austin-based power rock ‘n’ roll band The Reputations are releasing their new album, Electric Power, via Nine Mile Recordings on November 9th and will follow this with a ten-date tour. The recorded the LP at the monumental Memphis recording space, Ardent Studios with musician and producer Jody Stephens.
After becoming a fan of The Reputations first LP Begging for More, Stephens, the original drummer of Big Star and manager of Ardent Studios, produced Electric Power, marking his first endeavor under the title of producer. The upcoming album was engineered by Adam Hill, a disciple of John Fry’s teaching whose credits include Big Star, the Raconteurs, and Low Cut Connie.
The Big Takeover is psyched to host the premiere of the video for the LP’s title track. It’s a perfect-for-Halloween treat of a video that tantalizes and scares with horror and slasher film imagery and scenes, with the band members gradually becoming part of the suspenseful storyline.
The Reputations crank through the stark, yet glam ’70s-era rock ‘n’ roll track with assured aplomb – sonically and in video form. Vocalist Rockyanne Bullwinkel channels K.I.S.S. at the end of the video in her defiant stance and wild face paint. She’s surrounded by Justin Smith on bass and added vocals, guitarist Rudy Spencer, and drummer Jimmy Wildcat.
The group have recently added two more members, Auburn Noel on vocals and Erich Fraustro on guitar. The two previous members, Jenny Carson (vocals) and Seth Gibbs (guitar) are on the recording of Electric Power.
The Reputations have developed a well-crafted union of rock n’ roll, garage rock, old-school R&B, hard hitting 70’s glam rock, and even moments of San Francisco sunshine pop. An emulation of iconic ’60s and ’70s characteristics without any tongue-in-cheek kitsch. The Reputations’ inspirations are genuinely embraced and passionately reinterpreted.
The Reputations are playing in NYC on Friday, November 16th, at Rockwood Music Hall at 11:00pm.
