Thomas Abban grew up in Wales and moved to Minneapolis when he was 12. He immersed himself in the blues and by the time he was 17 year old, he was looking for a way of getting the music in his head — an uncharted mix of folk, progressive rock, metal, and mysticism — into the world.
Abban released his debut album, A Sheik’s Legacy, on RCA Records (2017). His second LP, the mesmerizing The Spiritualizer, (2021) was released on July 23rd and is available on iTunes, Spotify, and other platforms.
All of the songs on this album were written, arranged, produced, played, and mixed by Abban.
Big Takeover is pleased to host the premiere of the captivating live performance music video for “High Moon,” a poignant track from The Spiritualizer.
Abban is a born performer and perceptive lyricist, which he ably displays in this riveting video that’s focused on him singing and playing guitar.
The video is shot in black ‘n’ white, and set-up may be simple, but Abban’s depth of his emotions, airily keening vocal delivery, and deft guitar-work showcase him at the top of his game.
The reflective song is suffused with subdued longing until Abban’s feelings can be suppressed no longer, and he rocks out for a brief, but passionate spell, both vocally and on guitar.
Abban reveals some details about the track, its accompanying video, and his album, commenting, ““High Moon” – This is one of the earliest songs I wrote and recorded on the album. The abandoned building we filmed [this] in at 3am was extremely hot, which definitely added to the atmosphere.”
“With Everything I did and with everything happening how it did, where it did, and with all those involved who did it, this work seemed like the only thing to do… There’s not much I can say about this album other than it’s been with me in one form or another for a long while; the rest it can say itself, and much better, like intersecting lines and concepts, monoliths and miniatures, sirens and sailors, pathways through the water-filled skies and all the words between amen.”
