Akron, Ohio-located psych-influenced heavy/progressive rock band Relaxer have vibrantly evolved over time to become a musical force to be reckoned with. The dynamic and intense act is slated to join renowned underground Japanese metal outfit Boris on an EarthQuaker Devices Records -sponsored tour of Japan kicking off in Tokyo on May 26th.

During the tour, Relaxer are also releasing a hard-hitting 4-way split EP with Boris, Crypt City, and Lisa Bella Donna via EarthQuaker Devices. Relaxer’s track “The Endless Slope” was recently premiered at New Noise Magazine

Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Joe Scott, guitarist Jamie Stillman, bassist Corey Haren, and drummer Brad Thorla, Relaxer have taken their previously self-described “passive progressive” sound and kicked it up to a higher level – more powerful, complex, and massive than before.

Previously, Relaxer released their 7-song Unreal/Cities album, which was recorded by engineer Ben Vehorn (Strand of Oaks) in 2016. The collection of psychedelic rippers featured contributions from Steve Clements (Six Parts Seven, Royal Bangs). Unreal/Cities was preceded by the band’s debut LP, 2014’s Lasers, which was engineered by Chris Koltay (Akron/Family, Electric Six, Tyvek) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Slowdive, YOB, Bjork), and a split 7” with Cloud Nothings released via Mind’s Eye / Square Records on Record Store Day 2013.

The Big Takeover is stoked to be hosting the premiere of the atmospherically shot performance video of “The Endless Slope”. Bathed in electric blue and ultraviolet hues, dark shadows, and a misty ambiance, the band members are showcased purposefully playing their instruments.

Their moving images are occasionally filmed in overlapping layers or with a hazy vagueness, and are also intercut with symbolic visuals of a veiled woman wearing a headdress, a slowly winding python, and another woman clad in ancient robes. The mysterious nature of these brief, narrative segments mixed with the passion of the band in their element mirror the intriguing, yet direct interplay of the band members on “The Endless Slope”.
