Founded in Athens, Georgia, in 2007, and now residing in Austin, Texas, after a long stay in Richmond, Virginia, The Diamond Center (a/k/a Brandi Price and Kyle Harris) is inspired by “the recording flair of Joe Meek and Phil Spector, the bravado of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators and Brian Jonestown Massacre, and the vocal presence of Mazzy Star and Patti Smith” — a recipe for excellence, we say, and indeed this vivid, expansive psych-folk pushes all our shiny red buttons.
Crystals For The Brass Empire, the band’s first vinyl LP, came out on Tuesday, in an unusual co-release by Virginia-based labels Funny/Not Funny, Egghunt Records and Steady Sounds Records. Evidently it takes three labels to handle a sound this big!
Love, love, love. Tune in, turn on.
