A three-piece alternative rock band from Chicago, ODDITY formed around January 2012 under the name Fletcher, released two EPs, Open Arms and Thundersteps, and toured heavily across the U.S. In the opening months of 2016, the trio decided to go in a different direction artistically, and this shift in approach eventually prompted the name change.
“We changed our name because we are reinventing our sound, so we’d thought we should reinvent ourselves,” said frontman Oscar Baker, who with brother Harvey Baker emigrated from the UK at an early age and founded the group with drummer Tom Fry.
Producer Steve Albini was tapped to help shape ODDITY’s sound, which adds a Madchester/Brit-rock tinge to the QotSA-like energy that defined Fletcher. Recorded and mixed with typical Albini efficiency during eight days last January, their new album, Settle Down, comes out this Friday. It kicks ass, crank it up!
As a bonus, just cuz we loves ya, here’s the official video for “Pressure’s Gone”!
