Although Flower Festival’s latest offering, Age, was officially released in January, the proverbial well has not run dry! Today, we’re pleased to share the music video for Age’s closing tune, “The Well”!
Filmed over three non-consecutive days around Phoenix, this visually captivating piece explores themes of vulnerability, coping, and ultimate peace.
While the idea of an album being born of finding peace with oneself is nothing new, in Micah Dailey’s hands, it’s a beautifully symbolic harmonizing of past and present—“The Well” being a prime example.
“The Well was a song that I began composing in 2019 but didn’t have the strength to revisit and ultimately finish until early 2023,” Dailey told us. “The unassuming tone of the acoustic guitar with receipt paper woven through the strings struck something vulnerable in me. Now, looking back, I realize that this song marked a new direction in my journey.”
Having created an album in a way that both embraced and let go of significant restraints, this reconciliation was derived from Flower Festival’s examination of his artistic ego. “Spending almost 10 years on an album is a long time, but as a musician, I know I’m in no way prolific… and I’m making art that provides closure for the young artist I was. I had to go back to the places where hurt happened—like examining the darkest parts of marriage, losing close friends, the stuff you have to endcap to process.”
Thankfully, Flower Festival’s way of creating art lent itself to a freedom found only when the external and internal pressures of making music “the right way” have all but gone. One of the sweet results of this process was the chance to work with new collaborators and friends. “I’m so grateful for Qais Essar and his willingness to contribute rabab to this song. I also want to thank Josh Coe for creating and directing this stunning music video. His vision, artistry, and collaborative spirit constantly inspire me.”
