Alt-pop artist BETS — the moniker of songwriter and multidisciplinary creative Betsy Hershey — returns with the cheeky new single “I’ll Make You Mine,” arriving May 29. Marking the first glimpse into her forthcoming LP, the track channels the thrill of longing into a bright, playful indie-pop anthem built for spring.
A fixture of the indie underground for more than a decade, BETS has quietly cultivated a devoted audience, amassing more than 12 million YouTube streams while earning recognition from outlets including TIME Magazine and Nylon for her work across music and film. Her latest release continues that momentum while tying directly into another major creative endeavor: “I’ll Make You Mine” appears on the soundtrack to Just Look Up, BETS’ new climate activism documentary set to premiere at the Tribeca Festival this June.
At its core, the single embraces desire in all its forms — romantic, platonic, creative, and aspirational. Over shimmering instrumentation and an effortlessly charismatic performance, BETS leans into the excitement of wanting something deeply and unapologetically pursuing it.
“This song is about how fun it is to just want,” BETS shares. “To want love, to want your people, to want your dreams. Being in that state of yearning and creating is a beautiful place to be.”
The result is a track that feels both carefree and emotionally grounded, balancing cheeky confidence with genuine sincerity. As the first taste of her upcoming LP, “I’ll Make You Mine” signals an exciting new chapter for BETS — one rooted in ambition, vulnerability, and joyful self-expression.
“I’ll Make You Mine” arrives everywhere May 29, 2026.
Working with van Bosch as both bandmate and producer creates a dynamic that blurs the line between collaboration and creative intimacy. How does that closeness shape the music, and do you think the album could have sounded the way it does without that particular relationship at its center?
BETS: Working with her has been a total dream partnership. We started as accountability partners on our own solo records, so I never imagined we’d actually end up creating together.
But the collaboration has been so meaningful and more importantly, fun. When I hear the tracks, I actually recognize myself in them, which is the ultimate sign of a good match, isn’t it? I feel incredibly lucky; the record simply wouldn’t have that same DNA without that level of closeness at the center of it.
“I’ll Make You Mine” lives on the soundtrack of a climate activism documentary. What does it mean to you to place something so buoyant and alive alongside a film rooted in urgency and environmental grief?
BETS: I think facing the climate emergency head-on actually brings a strange sense of peace, it’s the shift from paralysis to action. There’s a real current of joy when people find community through activism; it stops being a weight and starts feeling like a shared dream.
The film is surprisingly motivating and punchy, and the soundtrack needed to reflect that. You can be deeply serious about the planet while still feeling vibrant and alive.
Love in all its forms sits at the heart of your upcoming LP. In a cultural moment defined by so much fracture and disconnection, why did you feel compelled to make an album about love, and what do you hope it gives people who are struggling to find it?
BETS: In these rather grim times, I think we’re all yearning for a bit of connection. This record covers the whole messy spectrum: finding the love of my life, the heartbreak of losing my mother, friendships, and friends who left us far too young.
All of that, the grief and the glitter, is what drives me to keep creating. It’s my way of staying tethered to the world. If anyone listening is struggling, I hope these songs offer a bit of hope or a moment of genuine warmth.
