The mighty Buckets from Los Angeles are back with the second single, “Harley,” off their upcoming record, Horse To Water, premiering exclusively on The Big Takeover.
Buckets are a powerhouse of nostalgic indie punk and have become a staple of the LA underground scene. Their new track “Harley” sees the band in a new light. The tune opens with a classic Buckets intro: a lo-fi warbling guitar, then the full group kicks into a twang-tinged, head-bopping melody.
As the song continues through the first verse, the listener is abruptly hit with a chorus of soaring guitar riffs, thumping bass, and that signature Buckets enthusiasm. The folky theme continues throughout the track as the band jumps back and forth between dynamics, eventually building the energy to its near tipping point, and all at once, it’s over.
Fronted by lead guitarist Sasha Massey, “Harley” isn’t quite country, isn’t quite punk, but something that blurs the lines of genre. The song has everything a Buckets fan craves from the band while showcasing a new style that will make more appearances on the forthcoming Horse To Water, out June 12th via Slouch Records.
Buckets is currently on tour, including appearances at both South By Southwest in Austin, and Treefort Music Fest in Boise. See below for their last run of shows, including a homecoming show in Los Angeles.
