Chicago indie rock quintet Edens will release their debut LP, Static Fiction, this Friday, October 23 via Dedd Foxx. Today they share their third single “Metal Egg.”
Recorded at Chicago’s Jamdek Studios with engineer Mike Lust, the nine-song record draws on themes of memory, nostalgia, and the unknown through a “surreal Midwestern” lens, and will appeal to fans of Sparklehorse, The Replacements, Deerhunter, Kevin Morby, Swervedriver, and Built to Spill.
“This debut feels like the cohesive maturation of what I imagined this band could be,” vocalist and guitarist Jonathan Burden says. “This is more of a statement of who we are, especially at this stage in our lives — reflecting, but also looking forward. We’ve been around but haven’t given up just yet. And it’s a fantastic collaborative effort to create this thing together.”
The band features members with ties to Tiger Bones, Laureates, Paul Cary and the Small Scarys, Reserver, Moon Mannequin, and Chalet Chalet, including Jonathan Burden, drummer Pete Gray, bassist Crawfie Ward, guitarist Josh Shell, and keyboardist Adam Penly. The album will be pressed on vinyl, limited to 150 copies in mixed colorways, and pre-orders are available now via Bandcamp.
Edens will celebrate with a hometown release show at Gman Tavern in Chicago on Friday, November 13, supported by Palace Guard and Wet Chain. More Midwest shows to be announced soon.
