Chicago psychedelic soul singer Manasseh brings in longtime collaborator Galaxy Francis for the electric and soulful single “Junie,” off of Manasseh’s upcoming second album R&B[eyond]. The two have been collaborating since Manasseh’s debut album, Monochromatic Dream, in 2022, and together they explore sounds that live up to the new album’s name.
As a singer, vocal coach, and arranger, Manasseh Croft has also worked with Johari Noelle, Isaiah Collier, Marquis Hil, Rich Jones, and more. With his own music, he brings in his heavenly voice to build out a dreamy and warm atmosphere by blending R&B, psychedelic soul, hip-hop, and sometimes electronica and house.
Croft said of the single,
“‘When my producer Eddie Burns sent me the track a few years ago, I was hooked on how much it reminded me of Adult Swim. The track itself was named ‘Junie,’ and I didn’t want to change it. I sat and thought: ‘What if I was Junie? What if I changed my name, hopped states, lost this weight, shaved my head, I’m no longer Manasseh… I’m now Junie.”
On the collaboration, he said, “Galaxy Francis laid down one of the most honest verses I’ve ever heard, lending itself to the sentiment of this song.” He continued, “‘Junie’ is for anyone who has ever honestly needed a break from how taxing their reality has been.”
Manasseh will be releasing his album R&B[eyond] later this summer.
