Single Premiere: Ruby Sparks - "Dreams"

Ruby Sparks
8 July 2025

Ruby Sparks

LA-based indie-pop artist Ruby Sparks is Jake Sternberg’s songwriting outlet that blends 60s pop-rock with 2010s indie-rock. Sternberg enlisted the very same talent behind some of his favorite records: He brought in producer Collin Desha (Low Hum), Phil Joly for mixing (The Strokes, Lana Del Rey, Daft Punk), and Dave Cooley for mastering (Tame Impala, Spoon, M83). After Ruby Sparks announced their debut album Iris earlier this spring, The Big Takeover is pleased today to premiere the album’s second single, “Dreams.”

While Sternberg is sharing his most polished and focused recordings yet, the singles off of Iris also look further inward. The lead single, “Nowhere Man,” examines the unhealthy masculine trait of bottling up feelings, whereas “Dreams” looks at the highs and lows of chasing a dream. Both songs deal with letting oneself acknowledge those uncomfortable feelings in order to grow.

Sternberg says of the song:

“I moved to LA almost eight years ago to chase my dreams. I can say with all honesty that they have brought me almost equal parts euphoric joy and to my knees in pain. Someday your dreams will come true. But if they don’t, and as hard as it might be, please find patience and grace for yourself. When you find the energy again, keep knocking at the door, but always know that you can turn around at any point and start searching for another one.”

On “Dreams,” Ruby Sparks shares the powerful reminder that’s OK to dream big but it’s also OK to adjust your plans and expectations when the road to those dreams takes you on a detour. So far, Iris is a record about being kinder to yourself, but it’s also a record full of guitar hooks, punchy basslines, and full harmonies to hold your attention along the way. Ruby Sparks will be self-releasing Iris later this year on November 5, 2025.
