The Orange Doors
Some bands write songs. Others craft experiences. Charleston, SC natives The Orange Doors belong to the latter camp. Their newest single “A Crack And A Peep” twists the rise and fall of creative life into a five-minute, genre-spanning opus.
The band’s next EP, Corn Planet, will be self-released on June 12th. “Infection,” the EP’s lead single, is another spiral of sound. For production, Orange Doors partnered with Ryan McPhun (The Ruby Suns) and Bevan Smith (The Beths). These two titans of the New Zealand scene add a bright sheen to Orange Doors’ limitless sonic palette.
The opening moments of “A Crack And A Peep” resemble a prettier Sabbath: dark, brooding, and splendid. Seconds later, the band rips into King Crimson style prog-jams complete with massive horns. Describing the song as a “love letter to marching band,” Orange Doors build and build layers of horns and guitars to create a whirlwind of texture. As the drums and bass maintain a steady groove, the song crescendos into a frenzy of awe and doom.
Orange Doors are taking rock’s storied history and adding a modern flare. Each note on “A Crack And A Peep” feels perfectly placed, a sign of the band’s dedication to their craft. As this new single fades to silence, one can’t help but want to hear more.
