“‘Charlotte Fontaine’ was inspired by the soul influences that we listen to — Sam Cooke, Mary Wells, The Temptations,” says guitarist Hank Fontaine, adding a tongue-in-cheek tribute to his younger sister and bandmate: “The song also pays tribute to the legendary singer Charlotte Fontaine.” (a la Ramones, Fontaine is not really the siblings’ surname; that’s a secret.)
Though just 24 and 19, respectively, Hank and Charlotte embrace the music of the past with unusual fervor. “We call it New-Wop,” Hank says, adding that the he really wants his music to be “swoon-worthy.” For Charlotte, the key word is “snappy,” a quality she hears in the Brill Building songs of Carole King.
Swoon-worthy and snappy perfectly describe this song, which we are delighted to share with you. Enjoy!
