Song Premiere: "Just Call" by Mahayla

Mahayla
18 February 2014

March 25 will see the national release of Electricspaceagesweetheart, only the second full-length in close to 14 years for the Louisiana quintet Mahayla.

After forming in 1999 and releasing an EP and album, front man David Fera (late of the Richmond, Virginia, ’90s buzz band The Seymores) shifted focus to a side project, Big Blue Marble, which collapsed after Hurricane Katrina ravaged his adopted city. After several fallow years, Fera turned to Mahayla bandmates Mark Davis (drums), Ike Aguilar (guitar) and Chris Johnson (bass) to help lift him from his funk.

Recorded in parts by Chris George at the Living Room Studio and with Better Than Ezra’s Tom Drummond at Fudge, Electricspaceagesweetheart brings to mind 90’s indie stalwarts Superchunk, Built To Spill and the Lemonheads.

We love the vocal interplay on “Just Call” between Fera and newest Mahayla member, Aussie transplant Yanti Turang; willing to bet you will, too. Enjoy!
