Like their name implies, The Memphis Dawls hail from Memphis, Tennessee, and yes, the trio of Holly Cole (guitars, vocals), Jana Misener (cello, vocals), and Krista Wroten (viola, mandolin, accordion, vocals) is easy on the eyes. They claim the Trio project of Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt as an inspiration and it’s easy to understand why. With masterful three-part harmonies, the eleven songs on their debut album, Rooted In The Bone, have the distinctive stylings of seasoned pros, belying their ages. Furthermore, the album was produced by Jeff Powell (Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Big Star, etc.), was recorded and produced at legendary Memphis studios Ardent and Sun, and features members of Hi Records’ famous Hi Rhythm Section.
Released this week via Madjack Records, Rooted In The Bone is an impressive debut, and we are proud to present you with “Liar.” A scorching soul number, it’s a stunningly arranged song that conjures up the spirit of Jeff Buckley’s Memphis recordings. Enjoy!
