Sister-fronted outfit Rising Appalachia are on a mission is to keep the deep lineage of roots music alive through their modern interpretations. They’re traditionalists in that sense, but are also forward-thinking politically-bent feminists. Every note is full of brash and sultry sonics, reared by the bosom of Appalachian Americana and schooled in the art of Baduizm.
“Mississippi” is an outstanding showcase of the sisters’ dynamic vocal blend – just hold tight for the lovely closing crescendo of jazzy vocal gymnastics. The song also clearly illustrates the duo’s deep reverence for the South and its musical lineage.
“Mississippi” is one of many superlative live recording from their new LP Alive (out Sept. 29th) – a collection of standout live moments, captured over the past two years as the band toured the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Latin America, playing alongside Michael Franti and Nahko, Damien Rice, and the Avett Brothers.
