Golden Brown is a new, Portland, Oregon-based indie label and music publisher, serving artists “interested in bending genres, minds and hearts.” Today’s premiere is taken from the label’s debut compilation Perfectly Toasted, Vol. 1, which comes out tomorrow (pre-order here).
Emily Doom is a new Philly band featuring Scotty Leitch from the band Shelf Life, whose 2015 LP Everyone Make Happy was released on Golden Brown’s sister label, Lefse Records. A collaboration between Leitch, Cameron Kennon, and Tom Fala, the band is currently writing and recording their debut CD, American Poppins, planned for release later this year.
Perhaps unsurprisingly for a group declaring love for ELO, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and hometown heroes Hall and Oates, the sleepy, off-kilter “News Breaks” is hard to classify. Neo-slacker stoner-pop? Jazzy psych-folk? Eh, why bother? It’s cool stuff, check it out!
