Song premiere: Sujetame by Whitney Winston

Whitney Winston
14 June 2016

Argentine native Ezequiel de la Parra has been releasing psychedelic pop gems for the last five years under the moniker of Los Jardines de Bruselas. Now living in Santiago de Chile, de la Parra has toured all around southern South America, drawing inspiration from Latin and Andean culture, and building a collection of native percussion instruments.

His new project, Whitney Winston, blends beats and synths with tribal percussions and mantric voices.

“I started recording this song in Recoleta, Buenos Aires, just a couple of days after I moved with my girlfriend to the first apartment we’ve ever shared,” said de la Parra, telling the story behind his latest track. “We thought that place would be our home for, at least, two years, so we spent around two and three months patiently furnishing and decorating it. The day after we finished all the work, the day after I placed the very last object, I received a phone call where I was offered a job promotion — that included moving to Santiago de Chile.

“The whole melody came out just by playing with my Lowrey Wandering Genie, he said. “All the percussions are domestic sounds I recorded at home (spoons, ashtray, pan, glass of wine, etc) and sampled in Ableton’s Drum Rack. I wrote the lyrics during the first recognition trips I did to Santiago, before moving there. This song is about the importance of having someone you can lean on.

“Everything was recorded and produced by me in my house of Juncal street in Buenos Aires, between September and December 2014. Mixed by Santiago de Simone at 7AM Mixing (Buenos Aires) during March 2016. Mastered by Grzegorz Sawa-Borysławski at Macca Mastering (Wroclaw, Poland) during April 2016.”
