Vancouver, Canada-located rock band The Matinée recently wrapped up filming a music video for “Blood Alley”, a track that features on the outfit’s second album, Dancing On Your Grave. The Big Takeover premieres the panoramic video here. It follows its main characters on a road trip through the western US, depicting everything from epic mountain vistas to roaring ocean shores cut up between clips of skateboarders, hikers, and the occasional urban spelunker.
The video reflects the song’s driving rock energy with fast-paced cuts and epic tableaus that will immediately stir up your inner wanderlust. The Matinée’s articulate guitar riffs, upbeat sincerity, and anthemic rock choruses are reminiscent of bands like The Maine, CRUISR, and The Hold Steady.
The band explain the backstory of the video’s creation, stating, ““Blood Alley” is no fictional place, in fact it’s at the very real epicentre of our hometown Vancouver, where urban decay and gentrification are butting heads with one another, while a whole generation is struggling to make ends meet. For the music video, we and film maker Sam Findlay wanted to tell the story of youth in uncertain times, searching for what’s still real out there in the world. Something human.”
The band continues, “Filmed over the course of a ten-day road trip, the video sees two kindred souls tripping through the American southwest, finding their way from forgotten towns to fairgrounds, learning that a stranger’s smile can make all the difference in the world. To quote the lyrics, “Maybe we all just need a little human touch.”“
